Shaykh Ahmad Bamba on the Night of Power

IN THE NAME OF GOD, THE MOST GRACIOUS, THE MOST MERCIFUL

1.  Verily! We have sent it (this Qur'an) down in the night of Al-Qadr (Decree)
2. And what will make you know what the night of Al-Qadr (Decree) is?
3. The night of Al-Qadr (Decree) is better than a thousand months (i.e. worshipping Allah in that night is better than  worshipping Him a thousand months, i.e. 83 years and 4 months)
4. Therein descend the angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] by Allah's Permission with all Decrees
5. Peace! (All that night, there is Peace and Goodness from Allah to His believing slaves) until the appearance of dawn.

           

Pertaining to the Night of Power, some of the disciples asked Shaykh Ahmad Bamba about its determination, here is the following information that came directly from Khadimou Rasoul.

While he  was  under  house arrest  in Diourbel, his disciples disputed among themselves about the sighting of the moon.

The Shaykh called upon a meeting and declared the following: "Let whoever saw what  looked like the new moon wash his face and seek refuge in Allah from the accursed devil. Shaytan transformed himself into a moon-like (creature) in an attempt to mislead the believers. Sha'ban has not waived goodbye to me, nor has Ramadan announced itself." Following that, he set forth a calendar based on which the Night of Power can be detected with the following Qasida.

IN THE NAME OF GOD, THE MOST GRACIOUS, THE MOST MERCIFUL

1. Remember, O you who are concerned about the Night of Power Laylatul QADR, this verse what has been reported by the masters in religious studies

2. They are unanimous that it is in its second half (Ramadan) and that, whatever the date.

3. If the lunar crescent of Ramadan appears the night of Monday, O thou who understand

4. The night of determination will equal the numerical value of the letter [tâ (9)] which follows the letter [yâ (10)] is the 19th night from the ONE who guides

5. But if the new moon of the month of devotion appears a Tuesday, it will be the numerical value of the compound "Hakun" ( ha=5  + kaf = 20), or the 25th night

6. When it appears on a Wednesday, it will be equivalent to the sum of the numerical values of the letters [zay (7) after yâ (10)] is the 17th night

7. If the new moon of Ramadan appears a Thursday, the date of the latter correspond to the equivalent of the numerical value of alphabetical composed "Kajun" which is written with [kaf (20) jeem (3)], or the 23rd night

8. But in case the crescent moon appears a Friday, it will be the numerical value of the alphabetical composed "Katun" [kaf (20), tâ (9)] or the 29th night after they reported

9. If it appears by against a Saturday, O thou my friend - it will be the numerical value of the alphabetical composed "Akun" [Alif (1) kaf (20)] or the 21th night so chosen it for the celebration

10. Finally, if the new moon appears on a Sunday, it is therefore the date that corresponds to the numerical value of the alphabet made "Kazun" [KAF (20) zay (7)], or the 27th night to complete my remarks

It (the Night of Power) is always on a Friday odd date. (Thursday evening after Maghrib)

Peace and salvation of God be upon our Lord and Prophet Muhammad.

Due to the blessing of the Night (Laylatul Qadr) and its advantages, the Servant of the Prophet r-Rasul Khâdimu composed a poem, an invocation during the Night of Power.  It is entitled: "The key providential aid in the invocation of the night of determination (Laylatul Qadr)."

Prayers here to make during the night and AL QADR constitutes "The Key that Opens the (Doors of Divine) Help" (Miftahu-n-Nasri)

"Alhamdou lillahil Mujeebi dhil Qadar

Man khasanaa fadlan bi-Laylatil Qadar

Mu'adhe-man li-shaa nihaa fid-Dahri

Hatta 'Ghadaa khaïran min Alfi Shahri

Thummas-Salatu was-Salamu Abadaa

'Alal ladhee khaïral bariyati badaa

Muhammadin wal 'ali wal sah-bil kiraam

Ma Dhafira Da'ee bi af-dali Maraam

Haa -dha wa innil-yawma dhous-tim-taa'ri

Minal Karimi Kulla maa aw-taa'ri

Yaa Rabbanaa bi-fadli haa'dheel Laylati

Faas-tur ma'aa 'ibiya waas-ma' Qaw-latii

Yaa Rabbanaa bi-fad-li-haa dhal yaw-mi

As-lih Oumouri wa oumoura Qaw-mii

Yaa Rabbana bi-fad-li-haa akfi kulla maa

Yadourrunee waleel huda aj'al sulla maa

Yaa Rabbanaa bi-youmni-hal Jinaanaa

Hab'lee wa tah-hiran liyal Janaa'naa

Yaa Rabbanaa bi-jahi-haa Nouraïni

Hab-lee wa lil-Ummati fid-Daraïni

Was-luk-binaa Nahja najaahin wa falah

Waj-dhoub Quloubanaa lizuh-din wa salah

Wa Aw-linaa sa'aa-datan ta-doumou

Wal fad-la yaa man mulkuhu yaadou'mou

Wa Saliyan Khaira Salatin wa Salam

'Alal' la-dhee min douri-hi Darou Salam

Mouhammadin Baabil Hudaa Nafir-radaa

Na'il-madaa Jaalee dujaa moudh-wa-radaa

Wal 'Ali wa sah-bi wa man-laka da'aa

Maa 'aaba bil faw-zil 'Adheem man da'aa

SUBHANA RABBIKA RABBIL `IZZATI `AMMA YASIFUN WA SALAMUN `ALAL-MURSALIN. WAL-HAMDU LILLAHI. RABBIL `ALAMIN. "

Dua for  Laylatul Qadr

A’ishah (radhiallahu `anha)reported that she asked Allah'sMessenger (sallAllahu `alayhi wa sallam),
"O Messenger of Allah! (sallAllahu `alayhi wa sallam),  If I knew which night is Laylat ul-Qadr, whatshould I say during it?"  Noble  Prophet (SallAllaahu Alayhi Wa sallam)advised her to recite:

"Allahumma innaka `afuwwun tuh.ibbul`afwa fa`fu `annee "

O Allah! You are forgiving, and you loveforgiveness. So forgive me. [Recorded by Ahmad, Ibn Majah, andat-Tirmidhi.]
